As you can see from the table above the Horror and Thriller genres were two of the medium profitable genres in 2014. There were less horror movies released than thriller movies but the Horror genre made more profit and has a higher percentage of the Box office. This could be due to the fact that the Horror genre is the more popular genre. This is shown as the best Horror film, World War Z was a lot more successful than the best Thriller film, Prisoners. However, there were more Thriller films released (64 vs 37) which may show that the studios think that Thrillers are more popular than Horror films despite them making £29.1 Million compared to the Horror genres £57.5 Million.
The most popular film genre of the year was Animation. This is shown as they had the highest percentage of the Box Office and made the most money. This was due to front runners such as Despicable Me 2 which can be watched by all ages. The popularity of this genre is also shown as they had less releases but made more money than Action and Comedy films. This is because most types of film are restricted by age ratings which make the audience limited which would decrease revenue.

This table shows that the most popular genre Animation, had a lower number of sites dedicated to show the films of the genre than Sci-Fi, Western and Fantasy. This is unusual as the Western genre had one of the lowest profits and had the least releases. This is a similar situation with the Fantasy genre. Horror films again seemed more popular than Thriller films as they had more dedicated sites showing their films. This again contradicts with the number of releases as yet again, the Thriller genre had more releases which were less popular than the fewer released Horror films.
The War genre had the lowest number of dedicated sites showing their films. This may have caused the War genre to have the lowest income and second lowest number of releases: The film studios know that this is an unpopular genre along with Western films therefore they make less films.

The Animation genre, which was the most profitable film around the world, was one of the least popular in the UK and Ireland. They had a lot less releases and made a lot less money. The most profitable genre in the UK and Ireland was Action. This was in the top 3 of the best genres in the world which shows that it is globally very popular. This genre made the most money at the box office despite having not that many releases. The Documentary genre had the most releases but didn't make much money at the box office. This may show that they are very common but not very popular. In contrast, the Sci-fi genre had only one release but made more money than all 33 documentary films put together. This shows that Sci-fi films are a lot more popular than Documentaries.
Thriller films were more frequent in the Box office than Horror films, just like the global statistics, and yet again the Horror genre was more profitable and more popular despite having a lower percentage of all releases but a higher percentage of the total Box Office sat 5.8% compared to Thrillers 1.6%.
